Your first appointment

Please bring the following with you:

• Your child's health insurance card (Versicherungskarte)
• The yellow examination booklet (gelbes Untersuchungsheft), if you have one
• A referral from your paediatrician or GP (Überweisungsschein)
• Any previous findings, reports or discharge letters

If your child is covered by statutory health insurance, a referral from a paediatrician or general practitioner is normally required for a first appointment.

What happens during the visit: our medical assistants first record an ECG and measure blood pressure, oxygen saturation, height and weight. The doctor then takes a medical history, examines your child and, in almost all cases, performs an echocardiogram (ultrasound of the heart). Please allow around 30 minutes.

If you cannot keep an appointment, please cancel as early as you can. Only then can we offer the time to another patient.

What we do

• Investigation of heart murmurs
• Investigation of cardiac arrhythmias
• Investigation of fainting episodes (syncope) and chest pain
• Investigation and treatment of high blood pressure
• Exercise testing with breathing gas analysis (spiroergometry)
• Cardiac screening where there is a family history of heart disease
• Long-term care of children and adults with congenital heart defects
• Cardiac assessment in genetic syndromes and systemic conditions (for example Kawasaki syndrome, Marfan syndrome, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome) and follow-up after chemotherapy
• Cardiological clearance before operations and anaesthesia
• Independent second opinions on:
  • whether an operation is indicated
  • the timing and type of an operation
  • whether cardiac catheterisation is indicated
  • the indication, timing and type of catheter intervention

Diagnostics available at the practice

• Echocardiography on current-generation equipment, including modern functional imaging (2-D strain, colour coded strain)
• Digital ECG and digital 24-hour (Holter) ECG
• 24-hour blood pressure monitoring
• Transcutaneous oxygen saturation measurement
• Spiroergometry in cooperation with the Chair of Preventive Paediatrics at the Technical University of Munich and the German Heart Centre

Most examinations can be carried out here at the practice, so your child does not need to attend a hospital for them. Where further investigation or treatment becomes necessary, we arrange it together with the specialist centres we work with in Munich.

In an emergency, call 112. This is the free emergency number throughout Germany and the European Union, and it can be dialled from any phone. Outside our consultation hours, please contact the emergency services or your nearest hospital emergency department. This practice is not an emergency service and the telephone is not answered around the clock.
